Twenty-seven artists have been selected for Art on the Edge: Sixth Annual Juried Art Exhibit at the Edge Center Gallery in Bigfork. The 39 artworks are in the Gallery from July 1 through July 31.   The Opening Reception for this show is on Friday, July 2 from 5:00 to 7:00 with the Awards ceremony at 6:30.

With so many artists, this exhibit has a wide variety of media and styles, making it one of the most interesting exhibits of the year.   Many of the artists are your neighbors.   It is wonderful to see all the talent in the area.   The most fun part of the Opening is the chance to vote for the work of art you think is the best. Like armchair quarterbacking, it is our chance to second-guess the juror.   It often takes some real concentration on all the art to choose the most successful.

Feeling Good - painting by Harold Dziuk

The juror of this exhibit, Keith Williams, is the head of the Art Department at Concordia University, St. Paul.   You may have seen his pottery a couple of years ago at the Edge Center.   He holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, and has exhibited in local, regional, and national exhibits.   He has a broad educational background including in-depth studies in studio art, art education and art history.   His artistic output ranges widely from functional pottery, to expressionist drawing, to liturgical furniture.

Cabinet by Barry Nelson

Williams has chosen paintings by Carolyn Boyer, Jean Bourquin, Harold Dziuk, Kathy Gustafson, Marsha Haffman, Gene Madsen, Scott Rollenhagen, and Peggy Selander and drawings by Joy Anderson, Aleah Bennet, and Isaiah Hoppe.   Photographers Donna Rae Anderson, Tamara Bennet, Elizabeth Blair, Owen Hagen, Gail Johnson, and Maureen Moris had work chosen, as did potters Judy Baldwin, Karen Haberle and Lynn Nachbar.   Work by Jeff Argir, Barry Nelson, Peter Pestalozzi, and Robert Biaggio was all done in wood but varied from furniture to bowls to woodburning.   Williams also chose work in mixed media by Kathy Gustafson, Terry Honstead and Jim Moffet and Kristen Anderson's entry created in felted wool.

Meet the juror and artists at the Opening Reception on July 2.   The Awards Ceremony will take place about 6:30.   Northern Pines Orthopaedic Clinic is the underwriter of the exhibit.   ACS Telephone, First State Bank of Bigfork, Northland Dental Clinic, Two Rivers Cenex and Kocian's Family Grocery are sponsoring Awards for the top two entries in 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional art.   Bigfork Valley Hospital once again is sponsoring the People's Choice Award where viewers will vote for the art they think is best.  Voting will take place on July 1, and July 2 up until 6:15 at the Opening Reception.

The Gallery is open from 1:00 to 4:00 on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.  The Edge Center Gallery is next to the Bigfork School.
